Unfortunately, Brian had a meeting at work that morning and didn't make the appointment. It's funny, but with Dominic and to a lesser extent Blake, Brian went to a good number of doctor's appointments and ultrasounds and wouldn't have missed the gender reveal. I guess that's what happens once you get to the 3rd kid plus his new position is much more demanding than the ones he was in when I was pregnant with the boys. The sad part was that his texts were messed up from updating his iPhone a couple of days before, so he didn't get my text message telling him the gender. I tried calling him when I didn't hear back but he didn't answer, so he didn't learn the baby's sex until after I had texted others and posted it on Facebook (when he finally called me back).
Knowing that it's a girl, I'm extremely excited (obviously), but I have to admit I'm very nervous. I almost feel like I'm going to be a new mom because girls are supposed to be so different from boys in so many different ways. Diaper changes will certainly be a new experience and I think that Brian is most nervous about that...no, actually more like the added expense that girls and their adorable, little clothes will bring. :)
| Baby Girl at 19 weeks |
These days, at almost 24 weeks/6 months pregnant, I continue to be in the 2nd trimester honeymoon period of the pregnancy and haven't had a lot to complain about especially in comparison to my previous pregnancies. My one recent complaint is my non-existent bladder forcing me to go to the bathroom constantly and lately a lot at night which has affected my sleep. I'm tired but I'm honestly not sure if that's from the growing a person inside of me or chasing/juggling/referring/policing 2 young boys...maybe it's a combination of the two. I will say that I have noticed more sweet cravings as opposed to salty which differs a lot from my other pregnancies and is supposed to be characteristic of being pregnant with a girl versus boy. In addition to that, I think that I've noticed a few more zits than usual, another "girl" pregnancy symptom supposedly.
I'm still mostly in regular jeans but pair by pair is being exiled to the "no more" portion of the closet until after the pregnancy and have just started wearing maternity jeans. Honestly, I hate maternity pants, so I've opted to wear a lot of dresses instead because they are much more comfortable. So far though, I have very little to complain about and hope and pray it stays that way! My past 2 pregnancies were by no means difficult, but this one has been a breeze in comparison. I'm not sure if it's because of the pregnancy itself...or due to this being my third one so I'm just used to these things...or the fact that it could be my last time ever being pregnant. Who knows.
| How cute are those feet that love to kick me? |
By far the greatest highlight of the pregnancy (in addition to finding out she's a girl) has been feeling her moving. I half expected that with it being my 3rd pregnancy, I wouldn't be as excited about feeling her kicking, but that feeling just doesn't get old. It's just as miraculous and amazing as ever. Plus it's a huge comfort to know she's alive and kicking in there. Her most active times are after I drink something cold and when I lie down. Brian was able to feel her move for the first time last week, which was wonderful! The funniest moment was earlier in the week when Dominic was laying her head on my belly, and she kicked him. I think this little girl will hold her own against her two older brothers. ;)
As Dominic and Blake had "Gas Wars" (as in passing gas) over lunch the other day while in laughing uncontrollably, all I could think was that February needs to get here soon because I need that baby girl! :)
